Article Writing Guidelines

Every customer wants something different from their articles, but here are seven of the article writing guidelines that we try to stick to at Lisa Janse Copywriting.

  1. Assume readers have a basic knowledge of the subject and require a more detailed understanding
  2. Back up the points in your article with facts, figures and the views of qualified professionals. Don’t rely on pure opinion.
  3. Use short paragraphs, lists and subheadings. Internet users like to skim read articles and sub headings make this easy.
  4. Make sure every sentence has an impact. Weed out weak phrases and clichés. 400 strong words are better than 800 words of fluff.
  5. Try to use the third person to create authority, although the second person can be used to create impact and for ‘how to’ style articles.
  6. Cover the main points of your article in the initial paragraph. Many readers will stop there. Use the rest of the article to expand your ideas.
  7. Use photos, links to external sites, and quotations to make your article more interesting and to add authority to your points.

We hope you have found these article writing guidelines useful. Please get in touch via the contact page if you are interested in having some unique articles written to market your business, or to add content to your site.
